Mullen's Monday press conference
Mississippi State will get the opportunity to gage where their program his this weekend squaring off against the defending national champion Florida Gators in primetime.
The game will be televised by ESPN at 6:30 p.m. and will no doubt be full of teacher meets student storylines surrounding Dan Mullen's first ever game against mentor Urban Meyer.
"I'm really excited about this week," Mullen said. "Anytime you get to play the number one team in the nation it's an experience. I know we're on primetime on ESPN. I guess where Erin Andrews shows up at your campus you are playing in the game of the week. We're really excited about that because our guys are getting the opportunity to show what we can do against the top program in the country. If you want to build a championship program there is no better way to start than facing the champions and see how we do against them."
But the Bulldogs are not just going to try to stay on the field with Florida, they are game planning to win the game. The Gators have lost their last three games in Starkville dating back to 1992 and have only won three times at Scott Field since the teams began playing in 1923.
"We're coming in and planning on winning the game," Mullen said. "We're not playing this game thinking we are not going to win. Our guys focus is on doing what we have to do to win the game. There is nothing like winning a football game."
Florida enters Saturday's contest ranked atop the nation in the Coaches, Harris and BCS Polls. Only the AP Poll fails to recognize the Gators as the No. 1 program in the land ranking them second to Alabama for the first time this week.
