Worthy key to D-line success against Iowa
While linebacker Greg Jones and defensive end Trevor Anderson can be called the heart and soul of the Michigan State defense, there is little question who the backbone is.
Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jerel Worthy may not be at the top of the tackle list or collecting sacks, but his play in the middle of the defensive line that makes the defense go.
Worthy finished the Iowa game with two tackles and two assists, but it was his constant presence in the Iowa backfield and his ability to provide a road block in the middle of the line that sets the tempo for the Spartan defense.
"Jerel played a great game," said Anderson. "He's the leader of our defense. He makes everything go. He is the one who has to make it all go."
