...::THE OFFENSE

SHE SAYS::...

The Huskies should be thanking their lucky stars that the Beavers didn't roll
up 500 yards of offense on Saturday. Quarterback Sean Canfield made
the most of his last game at Reser Stadium by completing 71% of his passes for
185 yards and four touchdowns. The thing is, if the defense hadn't done such
a good job of giving the offense short fields to work with, Canfield surely
would have had close to 300 yards.

Once again a very balanced attack by the Beavers this week who gained 194 yards
through the air and 178 on the ground. The most striking thing to me is the
number of players who contributed.

Saturday's victory was a total team effort as seven players registered receptions
led by James Rodgers and Aaron Nichols who each added 46 yards.
Six players rushed the ball led by Jacquizz Rodgers who gained 159
yards on the ground.

I also have to recognize Coach Cavanaugh and the offensive line. These guys
have gelled and improved so much throughout the year. It's a true testament
to Coach Cavanaugh's coaching and the players who have worked their tails off
during the season.

Great job by everyone.

SHE SAYS-GRADE: A

Efficient. That is the best way I can describe the offense on Saturday. They
took what they were given (good field position) and converted that into scores
most of the day.

61% on 3rd down, 6 or 6 on scoring in the red zone, 71% completion rate, and
an 8.8 yard rushing average for your starting running back. These types of numbers
usually portend a solid offensive day.

48 points were a season high for the Beaver. Given the total yardage figure
was one of the lowest of the season, efficiency was key.

The only downer I saw was the 5 fumbles. Only one was lost, but we haven't
seen the ball on the turf like that for some time. Likely a point of emphasis
this week.
