Afterthoughts UCLA/USC 2009
The dust hasn't settled. It isn't likely to any time soon, or, in keeping with the nature of this rivalry, ever.
It still hurts Bruin fans that OJ Simpson (better known for other things) broke loose late and stole a game that UCLA had fought hard and seemingly won on the field for the majority of the game. USC fans probably feel the same way about the one Gary Beban took away from them with two very late long touchdown passes sandwiched around a successful onside kick. I was there for both of them.
The incredible long string of harmful referees' rulings that have gone against UCLA continued with a phantom whistle that nullified a terrific heads-up play by freshman running back Johnathan Franklin in which he took the ball down to SC's red zone.
But that won't be the memory that fuels the off-season.
