When the Alabama Crimson Tide pulled in one of the top recruits out of the state of Michigan, it was considered a major recruiting coup. Little did most know that recruit would turn out to be Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram. Ingram's success at Alabama may potentially open doors in the future for Alabama when it comes to recruiting out of state running backs, including one of the top junior backs in the state of Texas, Steele High School star Malcolm Brown.

"It's a great achievement for any player but it's especially great for a guy like Mark Ingram who didn't really even start last year," Brown said. "He's a great running back, really amazing to watch. I was happy to see him win."

"He's got that combination of power and speed that you just don't see in a lot of people. He can run you over or run past you. That's really the kind of running back I'd like to be someday, but I'll need to work hard to get there."

Brown, a 6-foot, 210-pound rising star with over a dozen early offers had a tremendous junior season with 2,170 yards and 33 touchdowns on the ground and an incredible 10.8 yards per carry average.

"It was really a blessing to have such a great season and I'm so grateful to God to be able to do what I love and be successful at it. My offensive line makes it all possible. They are a solid, hard-working group of guys who make me look really good. I'd do anything for those guys because they mean everything to me out on the field."

With offers from nearly every school in the Big 12 along with several SEC programs, Brown has plenty of top programs vying for his attention but one that may be added to the mix soon is the Crimson Tide.

"I've been getting some letters from Alabama pretty regularly but I haven't spoken to any coaches yet or gotten an offer from them. I love the way they play football so I'd definitely be interested in hearing from them if they are interested in me. I'm open to everybody at this point."

"Right now, I've got offers from a lot of great schools but the ones that really stand out are Oklahoma, Texas, Stanford, Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas State and Notre Dame. I'm going to give everybody a fair shot but those are just a few that jumped out to me early."

While Brown continues to receive more offers each week, he plans on taking the offseason to sort through his options and figure out which programs to focus on more closely as the year goes on.

"I will probably be making some unofficial visits over the summer but I'm not sure where yet. I will probably make most of them close to home rather than traveling to the coasts. That's something I'll think about later on."

Brown currently holds a 3.4 GPA.
