RB Jones explains his choice
Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep running back Tony Jones has made his decision and the three-star prospect will be heading to spend his college years in the Big XII.
Jones picked up an offer from the Buffaloes recently and it didn't take long for him to decide that he wants to play his college ball in Colorado.
The 5-foot-8, 178-pound back was excited when Rivals.com caught up with him on Tuesday evening.
"Yeah, I decided (to commit to Colorado) today," Jones confirmed. "It wasn't like it was something I had wanted to do for a while, but when I got the chance I decided to take it.
"I just like the coaches a lot. I'm going out there on the 15th of January and I know it will be beautiful out there. I think it will be a great fit for me. They don't have many running backs, and they don't have one running back committed yet. I'll be the only one that's committed and I think that's kind of big."
Jones has not visited Colorado yet so he is going into this somewhat blind, so to speak. He has built a great relationship with some of Colorado's coaches, however, and he's confident because of that.
"Coach Riddell, I talk to him a lot. He's a very nice guy. Coach Hagan, their running backs coach, is very nice, too. I've got a pretty good relationship with the coaches and that's what made me feel good about it. I was talking to the head coach and he's just someone that really loves his players. He wants guys to graduate and get their degree. He doesn't just want to win championships. He wants you to be successful."
Though Jones said he is solid to the Buffaloes, he does have an official visit to Maine scheduled for January 22.
Jones estimates that he had about 150 carries for more than 1,300 yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior at Don Bosco.
