UCLA slides by Stanford
UCLA beat Stanford tonight in a close game that went down to the last three seconds 77 to 73. The Cardinal led at the half by three points 32 to 29 but the Bruins outplayed them in the second half to take the game by four points. UCLA was out shot 39.4 percent to 37.9 percent in the first half but came on strong in the second half shooting 58.3 percent to the Cardinal’s 51.7 percent.
UCLA zoned the Stanford Cardinal in the first half but went to a man to man defense in the second half at the 7:39 mark as Stanford was finding too many open shoots for Landry Fields and Jeremy Green against their 2-3 zone.
The first half of the game was a see-saw affair with the teams trading the lead until the 3:12 mark when Stanford when on a 6 to 2 run to get their 3 point half time lead. UCLA tied the game at 39 all with 15:43 left in the second half and then went ahead hitting a three pointer 45 to 42. But the Cardinal then hit their own 3 to tie the game again.
