UCLA Cruises to a Win against the Cougars
Alan Utter
BruinSportsReport.com UCLA needed an easy win to start to right their program and Washington St. gave it to them tonight as the Bruins walked to a 20 point win 71 to 51 in Pullman. The Cougars took an early lead and had a four point lead at the 16:18 mark of the first half 10 to 6. UCLA then went on an 18 to 5 run to lead 24 to 15 with 10:37 left in the half.
Washington State played a soft full court press that UCLA exploited for many easy shots. The Bruins shot a super 70 percent in the first half to the Cougars' horrible 33 percent from the floor.
UCLA hit 5 of their 9 three point shots but only 3 for 7 of their free throws. Reeves Nelson fell on his forehead after getting a dunk with 4 minutes to go in the first half and opened a large gash above his right eye. It took 15 stitches to close the wound. UCLA made another run 14 to 2 to finish the half up by 14 points, 40 to 26.
