Semelsberger, Beaird & Thomas looking to visit Army
One could say that every position is a recruiting need for the Black Knights, as the Army staff moves into the mid-summer recruiting cycle.
But without a doubt, both cornerback and safety are significant for the class of 2011 and there are a few defensive backs that are looking to make their way to the West Point campus
either unofficially and/or officially.
Safety Matt Semelsberger out of Ijamsville (Md.) Urbana High School has been spending most of his summer on the college camps circuit.
"I've just been going to camps and trying to impress coaches," declares the 6-foot-1, 205 pound safety prospect. "I went to West Virginia's camp and Maryland's camp -- and some more coming up this month."
In addition to camping at Maryland, Semelesberger attended the Terps' Junior Day in the spring.
With offers in hand from both Army and Navy, Semelesberger appears to have solid interest in both academies
at least he wants to see them up close and personal.
"I will be visiting Army and Navy sometime this month
I'm going to set the dates very soon," he says, while also noted he is anticipated additional offers. "I think West Virginia and Maryland are close to offering, so I'm just waiting on those
I'm pretty confident it will happen."
Another safety who has pulled down an offer from Army is William Beaird out of Nashville (Tn.) Brentwood Academy.
"I spoke to Coach Coaxum about two weeks ago and we talked about me taking a visit up there (June 22nd)," Beaird shared with GoBlackKnights.com on Friday.
"I wasn't able to make it up there, so I'm just going to end up taking an official visit there. I want to go up there and see what it's like. I have heard great things about it."
In addition to his offer from the Black Knights, he also has an offer from Harvard, but indicated that he is expecting one from Middle Tennessee State.
Other Schools that the 6-foot-0, 189 pounds safety plans to visit are Kentucky, Harvard, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Beaird has already taken an unofficial visit to Harvard and came away with positive feedback from his trip. "I met the coaches in June, saw the campus
it was a great visit," said Beaird, who plans to make his college decision sometime early January.
Cornerback Stephan Thomas of Egg Harbor Township (NJ) Egg Harbor Township High School currently holds offers from both Army & Navy and has made it clear that Army will be receiving an offer from him real soon.
"I'm looking to visit both schools," shares the athletic cornerback.
Getting a "local" like Thomas on campus for an unofficial visit would be a plus in terms of elevating his interest in the Black Knights.
