Hawkeyes offer Fleming
A quarterback in high school, Maurice Fleming Jr. has received interest from college programs mostly as a wide receiver, but added a new position to his resume on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Chicago native played cornerback at Iowa's one-day camp and by the time he returned home had a new scholarship offer to add to his list.
"I was out there for camp today and just did what I had to do," said Fleming. "I felt like I did really well and afterwards I got offered. That's my first offer as a defensive back."
Fleming's other offers include Minnesota, Indiana, and several MAC schools. The Class of 2012 prospect plays only on offense at Curie Metro High School, but proved to be a quick study at cornerback on Saturday working with Iowa defensive backs coach Phil Parker.
"They threw a lot at me today and really coached me," Fleming said. "I just tried to be a student of the game, absorb as much as I could, and use it out there in the one on one drills."
