Miles recruiting update
Berkeley Prep's Schyler Miles is in no rush to choose a college, while he enjoys his senior season.
Miles has helped lead his team to a 5-0 start, and is averaging nine tackles per game from his middle linebacker spot. The three-star recruit also plays fullback, where he has rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown and pulled in five receptions for 100 yards. He said every school that has shown interest except for Iowa State is recruiting him as a middle linebacker, but the Cyclones like him as a Sam linebacker.
In five games he has only played one full game, because they have blown out most opponents by the end of the first half.
"I'm just trying to lead my team as a senior right now, and hopefully lead my high school team to a state championship, and then I'll have all this college stuff fall back after the season and then I can concentrate on that," Miles said.
The Tampa product may be waiting till after the season to make his final decision, but his top four (in no particular order) are Cincinnati, Iowa State, N.C. State and West Virginia. Miles said if North Carolina and Wake Forest offer then both will move into his list of favorites.
Last summer he unofficially visited N.C. State and West Virginia, but has not made any officials yet. Those will likely come after the season, but the trip to Raleigh certainly left an impact.
"I liked it a lot," Miles said. "I was real impressed with the campus, and the sports facilities. I got a full tour of the dorms and the campus, and I was very impressed with everything. I like the coaches a lot. Coach [Tom] O'Brien, the head coach he's a great guy. I felt real good when I was there."
Not wanting to leave anything to chance Wake Forest sent its defensive back coach Steve Russ to meet with Miles.
"He's a great guy," Miles said. "I like him a lot, so see what happens with that. I talked to him about a week and a half ago. He came by my school. [I] said hi to him. I came in the spring, so we just followed up a couple weeks ago, and just got in contact. They love me, and he told me about the coaches. They just love me, and they asked me if I was interested in them. I said of course. He wanted me to go on an official visit later in the year."
Miles said he will definitely visit Cincinnati, Iowa State and West Virginia officially, and UNC and Wake too if he receives offers from the two ACC schools.
The Tar Heels told him last spring they wanted to see how he progressed as a senior, but have been out of contact since then.
Berkeley teammate, Reggie Barnes wants Miles to follow him to Pittsburgh, but the middle linebacker does not appear to even be considering the Panthers.
Despite the high level of interest from schools and his teammate's pleas Miles is focused on the here and now, which is enjoying the Friday night lights.
"I'm not going to rush into anything, so I'll most likely make a decision after all of my officials and see where I best fit, talk to my parents and to coach about it and make decision from there," Miles said.
