SU still on top for Timms?
Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) defensive tackle prospect Yoshoub Timms has taken it easy during the recruiting process and now it is about to start heating up with official visits. One of those schools that look to get a visit is Syracuse.
"Right now Syracuse is a pretty good team, but they are a little far away. They are not there yet, but they are on the rise. I think next year they will have a better season because they have a lot of good recruits coming in and they will have more experience."
For Syracuse Jimmy Brumbaugh is recruiting Timms for the Orange and the two have had a solid relationship since day one.
"I am being recruited by Jimmy Brumbaugh," Timms said. "He is a good guy and he would be my position coach there. He is great and the first time I met him we had a good connection we have become real close."
Most players from Florida think of Syracuse as a cold place and it will be a bit of a shock if they go there. For Timms he thinks about the cold, but not in a bad way, he likes it.
"The cold is the first thing I think about when it comes to Syracuse. It is a good thing for me because I like the cold. I am really from Chicago," Timms stated. I keep going back to Chicago though for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and in the summer."
The 6-foot-2, 265 pound Sunshine State product can play both defensive end and defensive tackle. Syracuse would like to see him stay in the middle of the defensive line.
"Syracuse wants me at defensive tackle. I could give them more speed and more power. I am not the biggest guy in the world, but I feel that I bring good quickness and a good pass rush."
Official visits are starting to be talked about for Timms and he has one date set. The visit he has will be on the same day Syracuse looks to have another big recruiting weekend.
"I will take my official visits in January, but I am not sure when I am going on them. I do know I have Western Michigan on January 14th. I have not had a chance to set up the other days yet."
On these visits Timms will have a lot that he will be looking out for.
"I am just looking to see if I feel a good vibe between me and the coaches, then I went to see how close the defensive linemen are, the majors at the school, and just how they run everything."
In the summer Syracuse was at the top of the list for Timms. After a few months is that still the case?
"I would have to say Western Michigan. They have treated me like family from the get go."
Will Syracuse or another school be able to jump Western Michigan?
"Since I have not been on my visits yet I can't really say. Right now everybody is in the race."
Despite saying it is still wide open a commitment could come only a couple weeks into January.
"I will probably decide after all of my visits or after my Western Michigan visit if I like it I will probably make it then."
