Red zone is dead zone for NU
EVANSTON-Northwestern's offensive numbers told the story of a rout.
The Wildcats ran an astounding 100 plays, piled up 560 yards, held the ball for almost 36 minutes, converted 12-of-19 third downs, and didn't punt until the fourth quarter.
Yet they had to eke out a 22-13 win over Boston College that they didn't put away until less than two minutes remained because of a red zone offense that was as effective as a Chicago Public Schools contract negotiator when it got near the goal line.
