Simpkins: Teammates let Russell Bellomy down
Ron Simpkins was disappointed with Michigan's 23-9 loss to Nebraska Saturday, and he was especially disappointed that in a difficult situation, Russell Bellomy's teammates didn't help the rookie quarterback navigate a hostile environment.
"When an important player goes down, especially your quarterback, it's up to everyone else to help him and we didn't do that," said Simpkins. "We dropped balls. We let blitzers run right at him without getting blocked and we still can't run the ball.
"When a young kid gets in there, it is so critical that he develops some early confidence because then he can make the plays you need from that position to be successful, and the opposite is true - if you ruin his confidence early, the rest of the game will go downhill - and that's what happened."
