around the big ten friday stat preview

With the Leaders Division slot already clinched for the Big Ten
Championship Game, the only question remaining is whether Michigan
or Nebraska will clash against Wisconsin Dec. 1 at Lucas Oil
Stadium.

The Huskers hold the tie-breaker in the Legends Division after
beating the Wolverines Oct. 27, and should be heavy favorites in
their remaining two games against Minnesota and Iowa, but if this
season has taught us anything, it is that anything is possible in
this conference.

Here is everything you need to know about the many intriguing Big
Ten matchups heading into the conference's Nov. 17 slate ...

Week 11 Big Ten Honorees:

Co-Offensive Player of the Week:
Michigan junior quarterback
Devin Gardner:

Gardner completed a career-best 16 passes for 286 yards and two
touchdowns, and accounted for four total scores in U-M's 38-31
overtime victory over Northwestern.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Wisconsin junior running
back Montee Ball:

Ball rumbled for 198 yards and three touchdowns in a 62-14

Player of the Week awards are tied for fourth place in conference
history.

Defensive Player of the Week: Purdue fifth-year senior
defensive tackle Kawann Short:

Short spearheaded a dominant Purdue defense with a career-best four
tackles for loss, including one sack, in a 17-3 victory over
Illinois. His six-total tackles helped the Boilermakers hold the
Illini to merely 75 yards on the ground.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Nebraska senior place
kicker Brett Maher:

Maher connected on three-of-three field goal tries and averaged
41.0 yards per punt to help Nebraska outlast Penn State 32-23. The
honor was his third of the season, and a Big Ten-record sixth of his
career.

Freshman of the Week: Illinois linebacker Mason Monheim:

Monheim captured his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award after
notching a career-high 15 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss
and 0.5 sacks, in the Illini's 17-3 loss to Purdue. One of the lone
bright spots for Illinois this season, he leads all conference
first-year players with 74 tackles.
