North Carolina preview
Normally with a chance to play in the Maui Invitational against No. 11 North Carolina, Mississippi State fans would be in a frenzy.
But the Bulldogs will be doing so with only six scholarship players when the ball tips at 5 p.m. CT this afternoon. MSU's roster under first year head coach has been riddled with attrition, injuries and suspensions.
Arnett Moultrie and Renardo Sidney both turned pro early while Rodney Hood transferred to Duke. The Bulldogs new roster was quickly dwindled losing guards Jacoby Davis and Andre Applewhite were both lost for the year with knee injuries while leading returning scorer Jalen Steele went down for six to eight weeks with a fractured wrist in the first half of the second game.
Kristers Zeidaks and Shaun Smith were both suspended indefinitely before the season began while starting power forward Colin Borchert was suspended following the home opener and did not make the trip to Hawaii.
Today marks the fourth time State has participated in a tournament in Hawaii sporting a 3-6 record in those events in 1987, 1998 and 2010. During in-season tournaments, the Bulldogs are 87-73 overall.
