Analysis: What's wrong with the Michigan hockey team?
The Michigan hockey team thought it had hit rock bottom with a 5-1 loss to Cornell Nov. 24. But on Friday, the Wolverines fell 5-0 at Ferris State, proving they could sink even lower. What's happened to this program ranked the preseason No. 3 team in the country?
U-M is 5-8-2 overall this year, 3-6-2 in the CCHA and in seventh place in the conference standings after salvaging the weekend with shootout win to earn two points. Yet, the Maize and Blue blew a 3-1 lead in Saturday's game, and have just one official victory in their last seven contests (1-5-1).
The good news is as Michigan prepares for a bye this upcoming weekend, it sits only six points back of fourth place Ferris State in the CCHA standings - only six points outside of a first-round bye and a home playoff series - and in a league with just five winning teams, anything is still possible.
