Ulis talks Iowa visit
Tyler Ulis picked a good day for his first visit to Carver-Hawkeye Arena for an Iowa Basketball game. In front of a sold out crowd, the Hawkeyes picked up one of their biggest wins of the season and the three star point guard prospect from the Class of 2014 was certainly impressed.
"It was a really good visit," Ulis said Monday evening. "The atmosphere was really nice, the fans were great and into the game, and they won the game. We had a good time."
The Chicago area prospect who is ranked by Rivals.com as the 105th best prospect in the Class of 2014 started his day with a tour of the facilities and he and his father came away impressed.
"We arrived at the arena and met Coach Dillard. He took us on a tour of the arena and the new practice facilities. I really like the practice facility. It is really close to the arena, so you have a chance to work on your game whenever you want."
From there it was watching the Hawkeyes pick up a convincing win over Minnesota. Ulis said he was impressed by what he saw on the court.
"I really like their style of play," he said. "They like to get out and run and run a lot of pick and roll. I like that they let their players go out and make plays on offense."
Following the win, Ulis had a chance to catch up with Head Coach Fran McCaffery, who was obviously in a good mood.
"I have a good relationship with Coach McCaffery. He's a really good guy. We sat down and talked after the game and he told me again that they really want me, but he didn't put pressure on me, which I appreciate.
The Marian Catholic prep said that overall the entire Iowa coaching staff makes him and his family very comfortable with the Hawkeye Basketball program.
"I like the coaching staff at Iowa and I feel really comfortable with them. I think that's important because my mom and dad are going to be sending me to college away from home and they need to know that there will be good people looking out for me," Ulis said.
The junior guard says he has no other visits planned and is gearing up for state tournament play in Illinois, which gets underway next week.
