Morrison sees 'big blessing' in switch to cornerback
Richard Morrison is learning how to move backward, and the senior-to-be decided it was the best move for him to start moving forward.
At his own personal request, Morrison has moved from receiver to cornerback this spring. Head coach Rich Rodriguez said he liked the idea when Morrison came to him with the idea a few months before practices started last Saturday.
Given the injuries that have sidelined his top three cornerbacks - Jonathan McKnight, Shaquille Richardson and Derrick Rainey - for the spring.
"I think he knows we need some competition there," Rodriguez said. "We're down a few corners this spring so he's going to get a lot of reps, and he's athletic enough to help us."
Rodriguez couldn't recall the last time he's had a receiver switch to corner "this late in their career," but added that anyone with the right amount of athleticism could make the transition.
