Jibreel Black: Expectations sky high for defensive line
Michigan's defensive line is working under the auspices of defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, will welcome back two starters and a plethora of experienced performers, and anticipates significant contributions from redshirt freshmen.
"Our expectations are sky high with the talent we have, as well they should be," senior defensive tackle Jibreel Black said. "We didn't do the things we wanted to do last year. This year we're looking to accomplish a lot more."
Black is talking numbers - U-M ranked 78th nationally in sacks last season (1.69 per game) with the actual defensive line recording just 12 of the Wolverines' 22 QB takedowns. The Maize and Blue also listed 48th nationally in tackles for loss (6.09 per game), with the line responsible for 30 of 79 stops behind the line of scrimmage.
