Ovens picks up first offer over the weekend
Sarasota, Fla., Cardinal Mooney linebacker Hunter Ovens picked up his first scholarship offer over the weekend on an unofficial visit to Blacksburg to check out the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Evans, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect posted 129 tackles as a junior with ten tackles for a loss, eight sacks, and two interceptions earning him second team all-state honors. He also posted nearly 700 yards on the ground with 14 touchdowns.
"I had a good trip this past weekend," explained Evans. "I really liked the campus and was impressed by the facilities. I also liked the academic side of things and got along well with the coaching staff. I got a chance to meet with Coach Wiles who is recruiting me and we got along great."
Besides Virginia Tech, Evans is being recruited in some form or another by most of the Division I schools with Florida, North Carolina, Iowa, and Clemson showing the most interest at this time.
