Rebels young but talented at wide receiver
The most inexperienced group of players on the Ole Miss squad for 2006 will be the wide receivers.
Ole Miss returns only one true wide receiver, Carlos Suggs , who had a reception in 2005. Suggs' total? One catch for zero yards.
The leading returning receiver is actually Mico McSwain who made all his catches out of the backfield from the tailback position.
Judging from the Rebels' performance at wideout in the spring there is reason to hope Ole Miss can be productive in the passing game, especially with the arrival of Brent Schaeffer at quarterback.
Matt Lubick oversees the wide receivers and says that he is optimistic his group of young players can overcome lack of experience with natural ability and a tireless offseason working on their own.
"We've got to work on fundamentals, the guys will have to work on route-running and catching the ball," Lubick said.
Coaches are allowed to teach players fundamentals prior to spring practice but once the allotted 15 practices are completed in the spring it's hands off until the fall. That means players like Burnell Wallace, Marshay Green, Suggs, J.D. Lawhorn, Michael Hicks and McSwain will have to motivate themselves to get better.
