In front of 6,138 fans, the Black team earned a sluggish 31-10 victory over the White squad Saturday afternoon at Reser Stadium. The annual spring game concluded spring ball for the Beavers.
Stingy defense by the black team led to a rough day for quarterback Matt Moore, who started for the white squad. Leading the way was defensive end Jeff Van Orsow with three sacks and a fumble recovery.
"The Black team defense was really solid today," said OSU head coach Mike Riley said. "Jeff is one of those guys who just continues to improve. He did some good things for us last year, and he'll do more for us this year because he is a hard worker."
Other standouts on defense for the black squad were linebackers Alan Darlin, Derrick Doggett and Bryant Cornell. Darlin led all players with eight tackles and also had fumble recovery. Darlin is expected to replace Trent Bray in the middle this fall.
