Walker hopes to check out ND

To understand where Chris Walker fits into the recruiting scene, just check the guest book.


In one week this month the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker from Memphis, Tenn., saw Alabama head coach Mike Shula, LSU head coach Les Miles and Vanderbilt head coach Bobby Johnson walk the halls of Christian Brothers High School.


"I was kind of happy for that week," Walker laughed. "It's kind of surprised me actually. I'm getting to meet a lot of the head coaches that I see on TV. It's all kind of overwhelming and flattering at the same time."


With offers in hand from all three of those head coaches along with Miami, Tennessee, Clemson and Arkansas, Walker knew he'd be bombarded with recruiting attention during the spring evaluation period. But the high-profile faces brushing past him in high school hallways still caught him off guard. Notre Dame has entered the mix as well, with defensive coordinator Rick Minter making his way to Memphis and maintaining contact with Walker.
