Diploma mills not a factor in LSU recruiting
Last month the NCAA listed 15 schools which have lost their certification for graduates as regards college athletics eligibility.
It is expected that the NCAA will add more schools to that group by the end of July. The Southeastern Conference has led the charge against these so-called diploma mills.
At the SEC spring meetings, Vanderbilt Chancellor Gordon Gee spoke on behalf of the conference against these problem schools.
"We have a solid phalanx of 12 people who believe these types of correspondence schools are not in the best interest of the conference," Gee told the Nashville Tennessean. "Our question is not whether we ought to do something.
"Our question is the best way to do it, in a way that's fair to the individual, to the institution and to the conference. We also want to make sure the conference is in a leadership role."
