Coach believes UA got a steal in Nic Wise
When Arizona received a commitment from point guard Nic Wise when he was just a freshman in high school, the Wildcats landed a recruit who at the time was ranked in the top five of the 2006 class.
Since then, as far as recruiting rankings are concerned, he completely fell off, despite becoming the all-time winningest player in Texas history as well as coming close to leading Kingwood High School to back-to-back state championships.
While many figure that Wise just never improved and that Arizona made a mistake by sticking to its word to the 5-foot-10 guard, those who have watched him play on his high school team - as opposed to the AAU style of play he never excelled at - know just how good he is.
Linzy Davis coached Wise when he was a freshman in high school at the 2003 Douai Junior World Championship. At that tournament, Wise teamed with future Wildcat Jawann McClellan. Three years later he was back in Douai again teaming with another future UA small forward, Chase Budinger.
