True freshman makes move to first team
Everyone associated with Auburn football knew the suspensions of linebackers Kevin Sears and Tray Blackmon would have a domino effect.
After all, with Blackmon and Sears suspended indefinitely - likely at least three games - AU will have to turn to its younger linebackers to fill the gap.
As it turns out, the youngest linebacker of all is the one making the strongest push.
Freshman Craig Stevens spent Sunday's practice working with the first-team defense at weak-side (Will) linebacker. The previous starter at the Will spot, sophomore Merrill Johnson, worked as the first-team middle linebacker (Mike).
Senior Will Herring appears set as the starting strong-side (Sam) linebacker.
