Beasley thrilled to be No. 1
Kansas State commit Michael Beasley has been looking up at the likes of O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker ever since Rivals.com started ranking the Class of 2007, but now it's Beasley who stands rated as the nation's top prospect, and upon hearing the news the 6-foot-9 power forward was happy to learn he was the new No. 1.
Beasley's efforts on the court this summer certainly didn't go unnoticed. By showing off his unique skill set he was able to convince Rivals.com's national basketball recruiting staff that he was indeed the top prospect in the nation.
"We're trying to project guys as to what type of NBA career they could have, and we're also considering where we think they'd project in the draft. It was basically a three-horse race between Beasley, (Eric) Gordon and (Derrick) Rose," national recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer said.
Just what effect Beasley's ranking has on recruiting is hard to determine, but long before Beasley's ascention to the top spot it was already known that other top prospects like Mayo, Herb Pope and Bill Walker, now rated as the No. 6 player in the nation, had serious interest in joining him at K-State.
