Palko and receivers key victory on Saturday
The Pitt Panthers got back to winning ways, as they should, in a win over The Citadel Saturday at Heinz Field. A win over a Division I-AA team is not a given anymore, as we've seen such things as Richmond beating Duke, New Hampshire beating Northwestern, and Montana beating Colorado already this season. Most important of all the Panthers stand at 3-1. The Panthers have gotten off to a 3-1 start or better six times in the last ten seasons.
Tyler Palko took a further step into the Pitt passing records, passing John Congemi on the all-time career passing list. He also had a first half similar to his performance in the season-opener against Virginia, completing 13-of-14 passes in the first half, for 251 yards and four touchdown passes. He finished 15-of-17 for 313 yards. It was evident that Pitt's goal Saturday was to let Palko throw, and get his confidence back. The result may also be his teammates gaining more confidence in him. Palko finished with the most efficient game of his career, as well sixth most efficient performance in Big East history
"As the quarterback, the only thing I can do is throw," Palko said after the win over The Citadel. "I need to have someone that I can throw the ball to and today I had guys doing a good job of giving me time and the receivers did a good job of catching the ball."
