Cantrell thriving in new role
BOULDER, Colo. - Maurice Cantrell was starting to become a forgotten man. Lost on the depth chart at linebacker, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native was struggling with not being on the field.
"I was exploring my options [of a possible transfer]," Cantrell admits. "But we were doing something called 'Crossover Period' in fall camp. That's where they take players and try them out at positions on the other side of the ball. It has been uphill since."
It became evident pretty early on that Cantrell's attributes better suited him at fullback. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound junior catapulted himself to the top of the depth chart just weeks after making the move to offense. Cantrell made his first start last Saturday against the Baylor Bears.
It didn't take long for him to make a big play.
