Tigers hope to replace Smith's heart
News flash: Missouri did not lose its fastest defensive lineman to a season-ending hip injury on Saturday. Yes, they lost Brian Smith, but contrary to popular belief, the guy that will replace him is actually faster.
"A little bit, but not much," said sophomore defensive end Stryker Sulak. "I may be faster, but he's quicker."
Sulak may be fast. What he is not, at least at this point, is Brian Smith.
"You can never replace a player like Smitty," said DeMarcus Scott, who moves back to second-string end after playing tackle the last few weeks.
Smith is the Missouri career sack leader, by almost ten. He is among the national leaders this year and was just three sacks short of setting the Big 12 career record. But not a single Tiger mentioned a statistic when asked what they would lose in losing the senior from Denton, Texas.
