Padgett will play in Cards' first game
NEW YORK CITY - Addressing writers from around the country Wednesday morning during the Big East Media Days at New York's Madison Square Garden, Louisville coach Rick Pitino said his star center David Padgett will play in the Cards' first game this season.
Padgett, who missed nearly 10 games last season with pain in his knee, underwent double knee surgery March 6. Pitino said just a week ago that fans shouldn't expect much from Padgett until at least January of February.
Wednesday at Big East Media Days, however, Pitino said the outlook for Padgett is looking better. Pitino said Padgett will play three minutes a half during Friday afternoon's scrimmage, then he expects the 6-11 center to play 10 minutes in Louisville's exhibition game. For the Cardinals' first game November 18 against Northwestern State, Pitino said he expects Padgett to play 15 minutes.
"We'll try to inch him up that way," Pitino said Wednesday in New York.
The Cardinals other injured starter, senior guard Brandon Jenkins, appears to be further along. Pitino said Jenkins will start practicing in in early November and should be playing again by Nov. 18.
