Aggies open big week with Pacific
Texas A&M has equaled its highest ranking in the history of the program with a No. 8 ranking in this week's AP poll, equaling the feat of the 1959-60 Aggies. But Saturday A&M will kick off the toughest week of any non-conference schedule in recent history by facing No. 12 LSU and No. 1 UCLA on the road.
But first the Aggies (6-0) have to face defending Big West conference champion Pacific (3-3), who handed A&M its only non-conference loss under head coach Billy Gillispie last season in Stockton, Calif., at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reed Arena.
The Tigers, who have been to three consecutive NCAA tournaments, will be without Chris Maraker who graduated following the 2005-06 season. Maraker led Pacific in points, rebounds and blocks last season. Besides Maraker, Pacific also lost starters Johnny Gray and Mike Webb.
So needless to say the 2006-07 Tigers have a much different look than the Pacific team that beat A&M a season ago.
