Big win in Washington
Arizona handed Washington its third consecutive loss Thursday, beating the Huskies 96-87. Chase Budinger was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 23 points and Mustafa Shakur, Jawann McClellan and Marcus Williams all scored over 20 points to help put Washington away.
This one was close all game long with each team trading substantial scoring runs back and forth. Both teams were hot right out of the gate with Budinger hitting from three-point range and Quincy Pondexter on fire from everywhere for Washington.
The Cats were questionable on defense almost the entire game and when the Huskies weren't dumping the ball down low to Spencer Hawes or Jon Brockman they were finding guys on the perimeter for open jump shots.
Washington was able to establish the first convincing lead of the game with 8:15 remaining in the first half and it appeared to be due in part to Arizona's play off the bench, not to mention poor defense and rebounding.
The Huskies bench outscored the Wildcats bench 25-0 in the first half, mostly due to the play of Pondexter, who led all scorers with 25 points in the game.
