Basketball Notebook: Tide prepares for Rebels
Coming off a three-game winning streak, the Crimson Tide are carrying some momentum heading into their game Saturday against the Ole Miss Rebels. But along with that momentum, the Tide will be carrying with them the memory of last season's first meeting with the Rebels, a game which saw all the momentum drained from last year's Tide team when star forward Chuck Davis tore his ACL before missing the rest of the season.
The Tide were ultimately able to adjust and move on from the game but the tough memory still remains in the minds of the returning Tide players and head coach Mark Gottfried.
"First of all, you've got a veteran team. That's been forgotten a little bit with this group," said Gottfried. "Those kids have played together. They've played in the SEC. The guys who are carrying the load offensively are all veteran players. And then I think Andy has done a great job of utilizing those experienced players. But this is a very experienced team, Ole Miss. The coach is new but the players aren't."
