Loss to ASU would kill Cats
Last Wednesday, USC was third in the Pac-10 with an 18-7 overall record, along with an 8-4 mark in conference. The Trojans had a respectable RPI of 42 and strength of schedule of 38.
On Thursday, USC knocked off Arizona on the road by the score of 80-75. The Trojans' RPI went up to 34, with the SOS moving to 35. USC was not only in terrific position to make the NCAA Tournament but also to get a pretty respectable seed as well.
That all changed on Sunday, as USC was given the RPI kiss of death - a loss to ASU. Losing to ASU and its RPI of 230 was so devastating that USC now has an RPI of 60. Playing ASU alone brought the Trojans' strength of schedule from 35 to 70.
