Big 12 Tournament set; Horns tip Friday evening
The Texas Longhorns took care of business in the Big 12 regular season, finishing with a 12-4 record and the number three seed in the conference tournament. Finishing in the top four in the league results in a first round bye for Texas, eliminating the possibility of having to play four games in four days.
While it's unlikely a lower seeded team will win three games, the top four seeds still have to play three games in three days if they advance to the tournament finals.
The Longhorns will spend Thursday night in Oklahoma City watching the six versus 11 game between the Missouri Tigers and Baylor Bears. The Horns will face the winner of that contest on Friday, March 9 at 8:20 p.m.
If the Longhorns face the favored Missouri Tigers, it will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. What seems like a long time ago, Texas beat Missouri 88-68 in Austin on January 10 behind 34 points, 13 rebounds and three assists by Kevin Durant.
Durant received help from D.J. Augustin, who scored 13 points and dished out six assists handling the trapping pressure defense by the Tigers.
