Pac-10 Stunner: Cal 76, UCLA 69 in OT
As Cal fans like to say, "The Bear will not quit, and the Bear will not die." This time against UCLA, Golden Bear team captain Ayinde Ubaka simply would not quit, or die. Behind their senior leader, the Bears do the improbable, knocking off top seed UCLA in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Tournament, 76-69 in overtime.
Ubaka was simply brilliant. The Oakland native took control of the game late, and tossed in a career-high 29 points along the way.
"Everytime we've been in an overtime game this year, he's taken over the game," California head coach Ben Braun said. "That's what seniors do."
"He's our leader," Cal freshman Ryan Anderson added. "He's a senior. This is all he has left."
It was the second straight loss for UCLA, which won the Pac-10 Tournament a year ago. The Bruins also played in the National Finals in 2006, plus are the back-to-back Pac-10 champs.
