A&M prepares for Thursday scrimmage
Texas A&M hit the practice fields once again Tuesday as the Aggies are preparing for another scrimmage Thursday before having the weekend off for Easter break.
Tuesday the Aggies did a lot of seven-on-seven drills and more situational scrimmaging, including plays meant for when the Aggies are trailing on the last play of the game.
During those drills redshirt freshman quarterback Jerrod Johnson was picked off twice by cornerback Marquis Carpenter when he lofted a pass into the back corner of the endzone.
The first team offense, however, had more success. Quarterback Stephen McGee threw two passes on ropes to wide receiver Kerry Franks in to the corner of the endzone. On one, the pass was thrown where only Franks could catch the ball on cornerback Arkeith Brown. Franks made the diving catch, but narrowly missed getting a foot in bounds. If he had it would have easily been the best play of the day.
On the other Franks beat Brown to the sideline and caught a pass on the same route from McGee for the touchdown.
In other situational scrimmaging midterm enrollee quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a very impressive day. Tannehill is surprising most observers with his arm strength, and he is picking up the offense rather quickly. Tannehill has also shown good running ability on draws and option plays.
