A&M wraps up spring drills
Texas A&M's spring drills came to an end Saturday with White beating the Maroon, 27-13, at Kyle Field during the annual Maroon and White game. The White was led on the ground by redshirt freshman Cornell Tarrant who had 117 yards on 12 carries, including a 66-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Junior running back Jorvorskie Lane had 64 yards on seven carries and one touchdown.
Quarterback Stephen McGee took control of both teams under center, but eventually gave way to redshirt freshman Jerrod Johnson for the maroon and mid-term enrollee Ryan Tannehill. Johnson was perfect through the air as he completed five of five passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 34 yards on nine carries.
Tannehill had a very solid day as well. The freshman completed four of six pass attempts for 25 yards and a touchdown.
The spring game, however, is just a scrimmage that is more enjoyment for the fans than anything else. The team is split into two through a draft. Therefore the combinations seen on the field probably won't be seen again.
Add in the weather and high winds, and this game wasn't much more than a show. To accurately gauge the Aggie spring one must look back over the four weeks.
