Summer Heat Wave
Hot enough for ya? Well, it is not for Tony Bennett. The ingenious head coach of Washington State University's men's hoop team was one of the country's hottest commodities last spring as Wazzu went 26-8 and to the Big Dance for the first time in over a decade and Bennett became the target of many a coaching search committee before re-upping with WSU. Normal people might have thought that was the end of it and there would be a nice holiday between then and the time practices begin on the second Saturday of October.
But here in the mid-summer, the heat is still on. That is because Bennett first got some good recruiting news after spring, then got some impressive results from his team's Down Under tour last month when they played well against a collection of Australian and New Zealand professional teams and finally, this month, his guards Derrick Low and Kyle Weaver were named as two of the USA team members scheduled to play at the Pan-Am Games next week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Folks, it just does not get any hotter than that.
