Cook, Saunders could redefine TE position
The time may be drawing closer when the tight end position finally plays an integral role in South Carolina's passing offense.
The move by the speedy Jared Cook from wide receiver and the signing of Weslye Saunders, possibly the best tight end prospect in the Carolinas last year, could signal a seismic shift for the often overlooked position.
But until Cook and Saunders are ready to play a significant number of snaps, the tight end spot will likely remain mostly a blocker in Steve Spurrier's sophisticated offense.
The wildcard Cook, a 6-foot-5 sophomore and one of the fastest players on the team. Cook played some at tight end last season but difficulties carrying out his blocking assignments forced the coaching staff to move him back to wide receiver.
