Buffs set for first scrimmage of camp
BOULDER, Colo. - The Buffaloes ran through their second practice in full pads on Saturday morning. The offensive production was improved from Friday afternoon's practice and head coach Dan Hawkins is looking for more of the same when the team conducts their first scrimmage of preseason camp on Sunday.
"I've got to be honest with you, I'm just not used to going through a bunch of scrimmages or spring balls without scoring a lot of touchdowns," Hawkins expressed. "I'd love to see us make some plays; I'd love to see us score. Defense wins championships but doggonit, let's score some points.
"We are going to push the envelope a little bit more [on Sunday] than we have in the past just because we have a bunch of young guys and I think they need to get out there and play. They don't need to be looking over their shoulder at their coach. They just need to go."
Wide receivers Jarrell Yates and Patrick Williams both made some impressive grabs during Saturday morning's practice. Both have shown potential during their college careers, but have struggled with consistency.
