Opportunity knocked for Thomas Barnes
When starting outside linebacker LeRue Rumph went down with a right ankle injury, it left individuals scrambling to figure out who No. 43 was, his replacement.
Three plays later, true freshman outside linebacker Thomas Barnes made sure to let everyone know who the new linebacker was at Carter-Finely Stadium last Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore defensive end Willie Young crushed Wofford quarterback Ben Widmyer, forcing a fumble. Barnes was in the right place at the right time and scooped it up and ran five yards for a touchdown to give the Wolfpack a 14-3 lead. It was the type of momentum jolt NC State needed, going on for a 38-17 victory.
