Gunnell emerging as a top target
Rich Gunnell always felt he could be a receiver in Division 1 college football, even though some people in position to grant him that wish weren't so sure.
On top of Boston College, Gunnell was being recruited by Rutgers and North Carolina, but both the Tar Heels and the Scarlet Knights thought the Notre Dame (New Jersey) was better suited to be a defensive back.
The old BC staff thought Gunnell could indeed by a receiver and prior to his senior season at Notre Dame -- one that was cut short by a broken collarbone -- he committed to come to the Heights. And now he's doing his best to prove the old coaching staff - and himself -- right.
