Bruins host Huskies
There is a lot at stake for the Bruins when they take the field at the Rose Bowl against the Washington Huskies tonight at 7:15 PM PST. Before last Saturday debacle against Utah the Bruins had a swagger after the game there was disbelief and doubt. The Bruins have always responded positively after a loss during the Karl Dorrell regime. For that trend to continue, the Bruins will need a herculean effort.
It would be bad enough if doubt was the only enemy. After all, a few hits and a couple positive plays, the swagger can return, but this team will have to do it with their depth.
By all accounts UCLA's depth is the best it has been for a very long time. Now is the time for the backups to seize their opportunity and live up to their expectations.
Missing for today's game will be seven starters. They are quarterback Ben Olson, offensive guard Shannon Tevaga, wide receiver Marcus Everett, fullback Michael Pitre, linebacker Aaron Whittington, defensive end Nikola Dragovic, and defensive tackle Brigham Harwell.
Replacing Olson is one of the heroes of the USC game, Patrick Cowan, who is coming off an injury of his own. Backing Cowan up will be walk-on red shirt frosh McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
