LSU ready to go punch for punch with AU
Three weeks into the current season, Auburn's football team was considered a team in trouble.
The Tigers had won just one of three home games - needing a fourth-quarter rally to knock off Kansas State. Then, Auburn dropped decisions to South Florida and Mississippi State.
Since the loss to the Bulldogs in its Southeastern Conference opener, Auburn has put together a four-game winning streak. Included in that stretch are impressive road victories against Florida and Arkansas.
It's pretty obvious as to why Auburn has dramatically improved its performance. The Tigers have run the ball better and have stopped the run very efficiently.
LSU faced some finesse and cute offenses the past two weeks in matchups against Florida and Kentucky. Neither the Gators nor the Wildcats had particularly solid defenses.
Such a scenario will not be present Saturday night in Tiger Stadium when the winner of the LSU-Auburn game takes a big step towards representing the Western Division in the SEC title game.
"It's going to be our running game against their running game," running back Jacob Hester said. "We have to establish the run."
