Cats win behind Beasley's record performance
Kansas State's Michael Beasley has officially begun the process of growing his legend. The touted freshman scored game-high 32 points in K-State's 94-63 season-opening victory over Sacramento State Friday. The 6-foot-10 forward decided to break the Big 12 Conference single-game record for rebounds along the way. So while it was inevitable that the school's record books were in for a change when Beasley announced his intent to play at K-State, few thought it would happen so quickly.
Beasley, who tied the conference record when he grabbed his 23rd rebound of the game with more than 13 minutes left on the clock, proceeded to eclipse the mark shortly thereafter, finishing the game with 24. And while it's not often that a 32-point performance is overshadowed by a player's rebounding prowess, that certainly was the case in Manhattan on Friday night.
