Ohio all-stater headed to Iowa
The Hawkeyes added one of the final pieces to the puzzle in their recruiting class as they received a verbal commitment from Steve Bigach over the weekend. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Bigach, who attends St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, gave the coaching staff the news during his official visit to Iowa City.
With his other finalists being Yale and Air Force, Bigach said he focused more on academics than football on the visit. The 4.0 student actually made his decision on Saturday afternoon after touring the campus and talking with academic advisors before he even saw Kinnick Stadium.
On the field, Bigach earned first team all-state honors in Ohio's largest division after racking up 119 tackles and nine sacks playing linebacker for St. Ignatius. The Hawkeyes see the two-star prospect growing into a defensive end in college and during the visit he met with his future position coach Rick Kaczenski.
Initially, the Hawkeyes had offered Bigach as a grayshirt recruit earlier this month, but that turned into a regular offer this past week. Once that decision was made, the all-state performer had a pretty good idea of where he was headed, saying it is a dream come true to play in the Big Ten.
