Central Florida offers Georgia OL
Chad Simmons
Rivals.com Football Recruiting Offer number one has arrived for Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood offensive lineman Kellen Williams. Williams received a verbal offer from Central Florida on Friday night and the written offer arrived on Monday. How the initial conversation between Williams and UFC got started was funny, but the outcome was fantastic for the Georgia OL.
"I did not even know about Coach [Geoff] Collins leaving Alabama for Central Florida and I called him on Friday to talk about Alabama," said Williams.
"We talked and he told me he left Alabama and was starting at UCF on Monday and after we talked for a few minutes, he told me he would call me back in about 10 minutes because he may have good news for me."
"He was able to call me back because he was not yet working for UCF, so he talked to Coach George O'Leary and they decided to offer me a scholarship."
The verbal offer was made from Coach Collins to Williams Friday and it all became official Monday.
"They faxed over to written offer to my school today and I got it this afternoon," said an excited Williams. "It feels like a huge stress relief has been lifted off of me. Now, I am just waiting for more offers to come in."
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman thinks offer number two could come out of the SEC.
"I actually talked to Coach [Ted] Cain today and he requested my transcripts so Vanderbilt could speed up the process. I am getting a vibe from them that they may be offering me when I visit them on March 22. I think I have a chance to leave with an offer."
Two other SEC schools are showing interest in Williams and he is thinking something could be up with them as well.
"Alabama has said they like me a lot and they want me to come over for camp, so they can see me do more pass blocking, but I think they may offer."
"Florida has all of the sudden jumped in the picture as well. I talked to them the other day they said they are having a staff meeting on Tuesday, and they want me to call back later this week."
Things are starting to pick up for the Peach State OL, but he is not looking to rush into a decision.
"I definitely want to give props to Central Florida for offering me, but I told Coach Collins that nobody has really separated themselves yet," Williams said.
"It means a lot for them to offer me now and offer me first, but I have not had a chance to visit them yet, and I have not toured too many facilities yet, so I am going to take my visits, and then probably commit to someone this summer."
